Fareed composte material

Fareed,
you claim to be for the war and for the people in Iraq.
However, you seem to miss the point of all the dead as if it is no big deal.
a minor consequence of war this mimics the administrations latest talking points that essentially say this war isnt that much different than other wars.

I think that is very sad, and very bad policy.

Furthermore, you advocate no course correction, so you seem to be advocating for more of the same. That does not make sense.

Moreover, you mimic the administration talking points by grouping anyone for a change in direction in one group.
And yet, for all my misgivings about the way the administration has handled this policy, I've never been able to join the antiwar crowd.

Do you think Rep. Murtha and Sen. Hagel are in the antiwar crowd?

Seriously, do you think our presence there does more good than harm? What should our troops be doing? Should raids like the Swarmer operation continue? Should we have permanent bases in Iraq?

I think Donald Rumsfeld himself would have liked to have written this editorial.

bush is a true leader

at taking vacation. congress is following his lead

i do not understand why anyone holds up these guys as anything but spoiled brats.
http://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif
in this context another aricle makes complete sense

bummer!

veep dick cheney says he isnt going to resign.

i hope he is lying again.

unfortunately (snark) for all mankind, he rules out one issue that is on the top of all our minds:
Cheney reiterated that he has no plans to run for president, as previous vice presidents have done.

"I made it clear from the outset that I'm not a candidate for president. I won't run for president," he said. "I've been very, very firm on that."

one of the best reporters out there!

i share the same first name with one of the best reporters writing today.
His name is Jason Leopold and one of the stories that he has been reporting on is the valerie plahttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifme story in which White House Officials Scooter Libby and Karl 'turd blossom' Rove outted a working CIA official.

here is the latest reporting from Leopold

Libbyh and Rove are traitors and Rove should be booted out of the government. both will be fortunate not to do jail time.

how about: we're not all corrupt & greedy!

does everyone get a voted & then diebold will tabulate the total?

is Iraq in a state of civil war?

Iyad Alawi, former baathist,http://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif spy, prime minister & US stooge says:
"It is unfortunate that we are in civil war. We are losing each day as an average 50 to 60 people throughout the country, if not more," Allawi told the BBC

I would have to agree with people including Rep. John Murtha, Larry Johnson and others. I don't know what else you would call the situtation there (other than totally horrendous & botched)

i would not want to be the guy that has to make up the Iraq out-takes DVD to play for president, i hear pres. gwbush has a baaad temper, poor baby.

ps, for george: the first definition i found for civil war is:
1. A war between factions or regions of the same country.

If the situation in Iraq does not meet these conditions, please explain how?

the worst!

http://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifharry, i couldn't agree more

I really do believe this man will go down as the worst president this country has ever had.

http://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifnytimes & thomas friedman: how far have you fallen?

i miss reading Bob Herbert & Paul Krugman, and occasionaly Maureen Dowd in the NYTimes. I used to interested in what Thomas Friedman had to say, but that was well before he helped launch the Bush Crusade in the middle east.

That is why I love it when intelligent writers like hooman majd take friedman to task. it reminds me why i am happy enough to save my money on the times-select. they don't need my page views either, i have shifted them to Huffington Post and Rawstory

here is some quotes from a story by William Fisher

when will accountability come back into fashion in the USA?

The United States had forfeited its right to report on abuses committed by others by committing its own, failing to correct them, and then holding no one in authority accountable. They said they would have expected this behavior in their own countries, but not in mine.

The keywords in their e-mails to me included Abu Ghraib, Guantánamo, Bagram, imprisonment without trial, ghost prisoners, kidnappings, renditions, unilateralism, bribing journalists, and Bush & Company and their whole Iraq adventure.

One of them wrote, "What kind of democracy is George Bush trying to spread anyway?"

...

"We're used to the iron fist of government in Egypt. We expect it. We used to have someone we could count on to show our leaders how to lead by setting an example of good governance without the iron fist. It was America. Now that's gone. Now, the only people who are motivated by what America is doing are the very people it's trying to defeat - Muslim extremists."

dan froomkin is the man

did i ever say how much I enjoy Dan Froomkin's (com)Post(e) blog?

here is a choice blurb from today's briefing:

Rep. Henry Waxman and the minority staff of the House government reform committee yesterday released a report showing that taxpayers pay over 95 percent of the cost of flights by the president and vice president for campaign-related events. "Using figures from 2002, the last time the President and Vice President traveled on behalf of others in a nonpresidential election cycle, the report projects that taxpayers will spend over $7 million in 2006 on presidential and vice presidential political travel."

As far as I can tell, not a single news outlet picked up this story this morning.

is bush a common crook?

if he could pull it off there would be nothing common about it!

it is amazing how someone who has been giving everything in life, and now is a shill for the rich and powerful in this country.

is there anything in his resume that he clearly earned based on his own hard work and struggles? he has won a few elections, i have to give him that....unfortunately that seems to be the extent.

will he realize before the end of his presidency that he is the President of the entire USA not just the 50.1% that voted for him

bush administration in a nutshell

republicans are finally learning

and saying something that a dumb-ass like me has said for the past 5 years:
Top Republicans Say Bush's Foreign Policy Doesn't Work

in the meantime, prime republican backers the religious right extremists don't think they are getting enough of the spoils for their 50.1% victory for bush (anyone want to rethink their vote ;-) )
Prominent leaders from the Christian right have warned Republicans they must do more to advance conservative values ahead of the US mid-term elections.

Their message to Congress, controlled by Republicans, is "must do better".

what do they want even more tax breaks for the greedy rich and even fewer free condoms?

maybe they'll be happy if we put jesus on the quarter

one looney tune, but not very funny

greedy republicans love to spend our money

Senate Votes to Raise Debt Limit

anyone want to guess when we will have to raise taxes to pay for all of the republican mistakes of the last 5 years? i am not saying 'if', i am wondering when will we do it??

people think George W. Bush is incompetent?? NO! i cannot believe it!

Thanks for pointing this out Atrios

Interesting data from pew research including this blurb:
The single word most frequently associated with George W. Bush today is "incompetent,"and close behind are two other increasingly mentioned descriptors: idiot" and "liar." All three are mentioned far more often today than a year ago.

thank you new york times

this crummy article make me not regret at all my decision to generally stop reading your pages

if rush limbaugh is happy perhaps it is just because he is high!

(fuck-an-a when did rush become an authority on anything? just ask Monday Night Footbal)

al gore: please get on television and radio every day and support the cenure of President Bush. Bush broke the law and deserves some sort of rebuke. If you don't like censure, then impeachment is fine by me.

how many more innocent civillians will be killed?

unfortunately it looks like there will be more

here is one disturbing quote from the article

A review of military data shows that daily bombing runs and jet-missile launches have increased by more than 50 percent in the past five months, compared with the same period last year. . . The numbers also show that U.S. forces dropped bombs on more cities during the last five months than they did during the same period a year ago. Air strikes a year ago struck at least nine cities, but were mostly concentrated in and around the western city of Fallujah. This year, U.S. warplanes have struck at least 18 cities.

i don't understand why more people are not saddened, disturbed or alarmed by this?

so much to rant about

so little time

ugh, if incompetence were a good thing, this presidential administration would be the number one all time bestest!

if this isn't a wake-up call for all Americans, i don't know what else is

The FBI is using its time, energy, money (resources) to investigate peace activists.

I would like to know the FBI's rationale for this? What are they trying to accomplish? Who in particular are they worried about? Do they see the activists as threats? or do they believe that there are bad guys infilitrating the peace activists.

Congress should demand an answer. Of course our republican led scaredy-cat congress are so timid they would never investigate this administration.
